As a child I always wanted a “real bird”, one that could talk and sit on my shoulder like the ones that I saw on TV. It was not until my children went away to college that, as they put it, I developed empty nest syndrome and I adopted my first bird. Not knowing much about the different species of birds, I took over a year to research a number of different species and decided that a Quaker Parrot was the bird for me. I was attracted to the size (the smaller the bird the smaller the mess), the fact that they were reasonable in price, but most of all- their playful personality and ability to talk. I was not disappointed with my choice and many years later I tell everyone who is looking for a pet bird that the Quaker is the best choice that they can make.
